Blazer Blazer with Gold Buttons | $28 White Tunic | High Waisted Skinny Jeans (33% off!! size down one size!) | Classic Black Work Pumps | Gold Pearl Necklace | Striped Kate Spade Watch
As women, we are constantly talking about fashion trends (and trying to stay on top of them). We drool over runway looks at NYFW (however impractical they may be), we wonder where she got that cute moto jacket from, and ask what she’s wearing. But what I wanted to know is, what do guys think of all of these trends? So, I asked Matt. Here’s what he had to say about the 10 hottest fall fashion trends.
And trust me, even I was surprised at what he had to say.
Written by Matt…
First, let me say that this is the first time Jenna has ever let me review her Nordstrom order. That is, before I find myself lugging another giant box upstairs and into the apartment. That’s usually as much visibility as I have into her online shopping and for the most part, I’m fine with it. When I see another Nordstrom label, I know she’ll be entertained for at least an hour so I can plan some video games with the boys. Win win.
Occasionally, she’ll ask me what I think of things. I’m happy to offer my opinions, usually in one word or two. But today, she’s asked me to do more. I consider myself reasonably fashionable. I mean, she’s conned me into meeting her at the Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue after work more than a few times since the move to Chicago. So I’m aware of most of these “fall trends” by now but I’m most aware of the bar on the second level. Nordstrom knows the way to a man’s heart. And wallet…
1. Menswear Inspired.
While this outfit may look like you raided your boyfriends closet, the deep v neck and the blazer is a funky pairing that works for the office, and then happy hour soon after. I guess.
2. Jewel Tones.
Velvet Dress | Black Over The Knee Boots | Similar Black Bag | Pearl Necklace | Black Sunglasses
This is the perfect outfit for when you’re running late for a night out, since it’s both a dress and bath robe. Jokes aside, it’s a very unique look and works for many settings. The deep green shade plus the cold shoulder and velvety texture will separate you from the crowd. Just don’t forget to tie the sash.
3. Mules and Slides.
Red Suede Mules (3 colors) | Black Skinny Jeans
They call these shoes “mules.” It’s not the kind you find in a cooper mug or the offspring of a donkey and a horse. It’s the kind that come in a delightful shade and is perfect to pair with any outfit to pop a little color. The pointed toe makes them ideal for the workday or drinks with the girls.
4. Velvet.
Similar Red Velvet Dress | Black Moto Jacket | Similar Black Bag | Black Studded Heels | Pearl Necklace | Black Sunglasses
Having trouble picking out a sexy outfit for date night with your man, who insists on riding his motorcycle to dinner? Well say no more! This velvet number hits all the right notes. Start the night drinking martini’s at a rooftop bar, and cap it off drinking moonshine with the rest of the biker gang.
5. Lace Up Sleeves.
$45 Light Grey Lace Up Sweater | Multi Color Tassel Scarf | High Waist Skinny Jeans | Colorblocked Bucket Bag | Tortoise Sunglasses
This sweater meets all the necessary criteria: soft (check), warm (check), comfortable (check). Plus, it’s the lace up sleeves that separate this one from the rest. The sleeves also double as handlebars, and you can never deny an outfit that encourages your man to put his hands on you. It’s also $45 so doesn’t give me much to get mad about when I check our credit card bill…
6. Blush Pink.
Pink Chenille Sweater (also comes in grey and mustard!) | $22 Twist Front Tee (6 colors!) | $54 Distressed Boyfriend Jeans (size down, they look better on!) | Pink Pointed Toe Mules | Pink Bucket Bag | $55 Pink Rimmed Sunglasses
I’ve been trying to bring pink back for years. Unfortunately it hasn’t caught on with men like it has with females, and that’s ok. This sweater/gray tee combo is perfect for an autumn stroll. I could do without the boyfriend jeans but ever since Jenna learned how much I hate them, she’s worn them more. So, I’ll keep my commentary to a minimum.
7. Suede Moto Jackets.
Grey Suede Moto Jacket | $22 Twist Front Tee | Black Skinny Jeans | Grey Suede Booties (4 colors, 20% off!) | Grey Leather Saddle Bag | Similar $55 Black Sunglasses | Silver Necklace | Silver Bracelet
This is a suede moto jacket. First let’s look past how it looks and more about how cool it is to say. Seriously, say it out loud with me. Suede. Moto. Jacket. Now ask yourself how much fun it would be to own this and wear it around. So fun! Ok now back to the important part, the look. It’s groovy, funky, and full of spunk. This gray tone is so unique as well. Before you buy it, one more time for fun: SUEDE MOTO JACKET!
8. Monochrome.
Burgundy Bubble Sleeve Sweater | Burgundy Pleated Skirt | Black Classic Pumps | Similar Black Bag | Gold Bar Necklace | Black Sunglasses
Monochromatic outfits can sometimes be taboo, but I think burgundy is just as versatile as black, so why not! I also can’t tell what is more unique, the sleeves on this sweater or the shape of the skirt? This outfit is loud, but the good kind of loud. I guess it could be because the skirt resembles a xylophone.
9. Ruffles Everywhere.
Ruffle Cardigan (2 colors) | Best Thermal with Thumb Holes | Black Skinny Jeans | Black Sunglasses | Bar Necklace
I’m all about the ruffles. Whether it’s this ruffle sleeved sweater or the Ruffles you eat out of a can, I’m all in. This sweater seems versatile and can be worn on so many occasions. Especially since women always seem to be cold.
10. Embellished Sleeves.
White Tie Sleeve Sweater | Beige Wool Scarf (so warm, under $50!) | Black Skinny Jeans | Red Suede Mules | Cognac Mini Crossbody
The trend of the fall feels like sweater sleeves. We’ve had the bell sleeves, Olympic gymnastic ring sleeves, ruffled sleeves, but now I present to you the tie sleeves! Paired here with the longest scarf of all time, you’re officially ready for fall. The plus is that this scarf doubles as a blanket.
