When I first said I wanted to find the best natural lip balm on Instagram, I was surprised by how many of you were interested in hearing the results. Turns out, there are a lot of us with chapped lips! I felt like six lip balms was a good start (and I’ll keep adding to this list) so here’s where they rank in my book!
After sampling these lip balms for a month, I was surprised by how all but one of them worked surprisingly well. I have chronically chapped lips so I expected my lips to peel and be a complete mess. However, it was pretty much status quo to the lip balm I’d been using before (which they now reformulated to contain mineral oil). That’s what ultimately motivated me to start this search for the best natural lip balm! Truthfully, I’d continue to use all 5 of these products because they were all really good.
BEST NATURAL LIP BALM
The Hurraw lip balm is probably my favorite of the best natural lip balms but only by a little! The reason I love it is the shape of the container. It’s not a typical circle shape – more of an oval – which I personally really love. I feel like it coats your lips more efficiently and the coconut is quite moisturizing. It’s also raw, vegan, and free of beeswax which was a common ingredient in most of these. It’s also incredibly inexpensive from Goop which has a ton of amazing products. I placed an order back in February and have been loving everything so far.
I felt like the All Good Coconut lip balm was slightly thicker than the Hurraw lip balm. Meaning, I needed to apply it less and it was more moisturizing. I ended up using this one before bed since it lasts a little longer. The only reason it’s second is because it’s a typical circle shaped tube. I’m a sucker for unique packaging so Hurraw wins there. I will probably continue to use both of them interchangeably but I love that this one has SPF with spring and summer right around the corner.
The scent of this Grown Alchemist lip balm was my favorite by far. I thought the watermelon flavor might be a little off-putting, but it wasn’t. Even Matt loved the scent of it! It wasn’t as thick as the Hurraw or All Good lip balms in terms of consistency. It was more like a non-sticky lip gloss. I also felt like the consistency means that I didn’t have to reapply as much. The only downside is it’s a little pricier but you can get it on Amazon which makes life so much easier. The tube is also incredibly chic.
A lot of the reviews mentioned that the product oozed out the cap after use but I didn’t really have an issue with this. Since I was aware that that could happen going in, I probably overcompensated and was extra careful to make sure I squeezed the tube gently and only enough to get what I needed.
Matt actually has been using this Burt’s Bees lip balm for months. When I realized my favorite lip balm had been reformulated, I ended up using his for a bit. While this one does contain beeswax, it is the most similar to a regular chapstick. It does not have the minty sting of some of the other Burt’s Bees lip balms which is why I tried it. The minty sting tends to irritate my lips and make them peel! I also really loved the pomegranate scent for a little something different. The price point is great and it’s widely found at drugstores which is a plus too.
I’ve been trying various RMS Beauty products and I’ve been loving them all. The only reason this lip balm is at the bottom of this list (and these are all very close!) is because of the price point. However, you can also use this lip balm around your eyes, on your cuticles, and on any fine lines. I love the fact that it’s multi-purpose.
WORST NATURAL LIP BALM
I had such high hopes for this moisturizer by Juice Beauty but within minutes I knew it was a miss! My lips were chapped almost immediately. The consistency was thin and while the scent was good, I couldn’t use it more than a handful of times. It’s currently sitting on my coffee table almost full! I don’t have the heart to throw it away just yet!
