There is nothing quite as classy as a pencil skirt. I love them so much for the office and even outside of it at times. The shape is just one that works really well on the female figure especially when it comes with a high waist. Thank god for high waists. This gingham pencil skirt was another item that I couldn’t wait to re-style for you guys. While last time, I paired it with a white button down, I wanted to try a sweater this time. In light of some very fall-like weather in Chicago, this is more of a reality this week!
For sweaters, I broke out this ruffle sleeve grey knit. I love that the ruffles bring an element of fun to this office appropriate look. This sweater can also be worn with jeans easily and is just a great basic. I didn’t size down in this one because I wanted the flexibility to wear a little baggy or like this (rolled up) with more structured pieces! I found a few more gorgeous ones while I was shopping for this one and some are under $50 (this one sold out already so snag these quick!).
I’m also wearing these grey pumps for the third time this week. I swear they are such a great shoe for the office!
It’s a little cooler in Chicago today so I’m breaking out the double layers with this wool trimmed cardigan. I loved the rich royal blue color and the silk-like trim. And the tiny pockets! Such a cute preppy look! This cardigan comes in multiple colorsand I had such a hard time deciding on one because they’re all gorgeous!
Underneath, I’m layering a classic blue button down. Mine is old by a brand called Jared Lang (they only make men’s shirts now and this is the only brand Matt wears). So here are a few similar ones:
Note that I’ve styled this skirt twice with blue tops but it can truly go with any color top. I just really happen to like the color blue I guess lately. I feel like it’s also a really standard color in the workplace.
While usually it’s bad when things are black and blue, this combination is so right! I am dying for the fluted sleeveon this light blue top! I feel like blue is worn so much in the workplace. So, it’s always nice to add a little twist on a classic like this. It’s also conservative enough to wear to church!
This skirt fits like a dream and I love that it’s an A-Line cut. The fabric is high quality too and it won’t fade. I will definitely be restyling this a lot this fall! It hits me right at the waist and I sized down one size because my waist is small compared to my wide hips!
Here are a few of my favorite statement necklaces that would go really well with this combo!
I’ve never met a high waist I didn’t like! There is something about this cut that just really works wonders for a female figure. Doesn’t matter if you have no curves or you think you have too many (there’s no such thing by the way). This cut will work for you! This gingham skirt from Dainty Jewell’s is my newest addition to my closet and I can’t wait to style it more ways! The subtle black print makes it really easy to style with everything and it’s under $50!
I love the look of this classic white button down tucked into the skirt. I sized up in the one I’m wearing to give it that relaxed look so I could balance out the structure of the skirt. I wear this shirtall the time! I wear it with skirts like this, with denim untucked, and layered under sweaters during fall and winter! Such a great versatile must have for the career woman!
I’m also back wearing these classic black pumps – I’m slowly collecting every color of these because they are such a great height for the office! Next up is the pink!
Happy Monday! It’s supposed to be almost 90 degrees today so I’m breaking out this navy ruffled skirt! If it seems like I’m loving navy for work lately, I am. Remember this wrap ruffle dress I wore last week? It’s such a classically chic color especially for the girl who loves to be just a little preppy. I ordered my regular size in the skirt but it is elastic so if you know your waist is narrow, size down one size. There is plenty of room in the hip!
I’m pairing it with this tie front white top to keep cool. I showed this on IG Stories but play around with rolling it up or even under (like I did today) when you’re wearing it with a waisted skirt. I love that I can wear this top later in the season too when layering under cardigans and motos. It’s just a great basic with an extra detail. I’m wearing my regular size because I didn’t want it to get too short and I love the way it fits!
I really liked the red statement necklace with this combination. I tried a few other colors but they just didn’t seem to work as well. My necklace is old but I linked to a few red options – my favorite is this one.
PS. I’m trying something new with my OOTDs instead of linking them all here! Let me know what you think!
